Matt received a Masters of Fine Arts degree in ceramics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a MA degree in printmaking from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in ceramics from the Kansas City Art Institute. His professional experience spans more than fifteen years as a studio artist. He has exhibited his work in well over two hundred exhibitions. His work has been recognized by numerous grants, awards and residencies, including residencies at the Archie Bray Foundation, Penland School of Crafts and at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan. He has taught at several universities including Alfred University, Appalachian State University, Hartford Art School, and The Ohio State University.
